Since members of the Congress and the Senate know they will receive lifetime salaries, there is no incentive for getting a job done and done well. There is no accountability. Regardless of what they do or don't do in the Congress and Senate, they are set for life. Isn't this one "perk" they could do just fine without? They need to remember that they are public servants whose service should be reward enough. It is for many of us.
