When a U.S citizen crosses a U.S border checkpoint, his/her passport shouldn't be stamped for entry and exit Instead it should be reviewed as proof being a U.S citizen, swiped for a background check and the bearer should be let on his way if he/she has no issues. The U.S government will save millions of tax payers dollars in stamps and ink, that can used on foreigners passports. The EU doesn't stamp their passports and they save a lot of money in doing so.
