There have been hundreds of preventable taser related deaths. Amnesty International records over 500 taser related deaths in the U.S. alone. Later investigations have shown the majority of those killed by taser were not a threat at the time they were shocked.
We are calling for a Federal Law to make it illegal for any law enforcement to use a taser unless:
1. They have access to a defibrillator within 2 minutes of tasing and training in proper usage.
2. Have training on how to recognize heart stoppage, and be certified in resuscitation.
3. As it takes only 1 micro-volt across the heart to stop it, no tasing within 20 cm of the heart/chest area.
