From 2000 to 2002, 7721 services members were put on temporary disability retired list (TDRL). Current policy states, “A physical examination shall be given at least once every 18 months to each member of the armed forces whose name is on the temporary disability retired list” in Feb of 2009 I was placed on TDRL & in the 5 years I was only given a physical examination in Aug of '09 & in Jan. '14.
Current law states, “disability retired pay of a member… terminates upon the expiration of five years after the date when his name was placed on that list”
I like many others fall into a situation where we are waiting for our final disposition pass our five year cutoff point with no benefits.
A system needs to be put into place that allows benefits to continue for service members they are waiting
