One of the signs of a forward looking nation is its commitment to innovation. Without its scientific achievements US would not have established itself as a world leader. This was understood by lawmakers from all sides of the political spectrum since the end of the WWII. With broad bipartisan support this country has created some of the finest research across the broad range of scientific endeavors. The doubling of biomedical research funds achieved under President Clinton's leadership resulted in great health benefits today. Unfortunately, the last decade has seen stagnation of American commitment to research science. Therefore we petition the Administration to push forward a call for another doubling of research investment in the next five years which will greatly benefit all Americans.
