Draft a bill requiring regulation of alternative medicine products as pharmaceuticals

Created by D.S. on January 12, 2013

There is widespread use of alternative medicine preparations and herbal supplements. There is at present no regulation of the safety, efficacy and dosage of these products. Because they are sold as “food” products they do not require the same rigorous testing as products sold as pharmaceuticals. As a result, consumers may be wasting money on products that don’t work and may harm them.

Therefore, we request that a bill be drafted requiring all products sold as vitamins, supplements or healthcare preparations to demonstrate their usefulness and safety through legitimate scientific testing.
