All too often potential elected officials say exactly what their constituents want to hear and have little to no repercussions for making decisions based on personal beliefs or what they hear from lobbyists representing corporations.
Utilizing today's technology it is entirely possibly to have an online system where every citizen can voice their opinion and vote on current legislation that is being considered by congress.
With such a system, it would be trivial to single out which lawmakers do not represent their constituent's opinion or repeatedly vote against their constituent's wishes. The effect hopefully leading to lawmakers who would be weary of the reputation consequence for voting out of favor--thus enforcing a lawmaking system that better represents the people.
