While it is impossible to recover the unknown trillions of dollars wasted on the past 12 (or so) years of war, we can redirect the government's spending priorities towards the development of a more verdant, secure, energy-independent, and scientifically progressive America in the 21st century. Increasing the funding available for research grants, as well as the funding of institutions such as the NIH and NASA, can only improve the lives of the American people. We were once the greatest force for scientific progress in the world, where the greatest minds yearned to come and be -not permitted, not allowed- but encouraged to think big ideas, and were provided the financial resources to test those ideas to their full conclusion. It's time to be that America again.
