Drop Lawrence Summers from consideration as the next chief of the Fed

Created by K.H. on July 24, 2013

Dr. Summers' retrograde views on gender, which lost him the presidency of Harvard, make us fear for the careers of talented women at the Fed. More frightening by far, however, is the immorality at the heart of his views on global economics and the environment: "I think the economic logic behind dumping a load of toxic waste in the lowest-wage country is impeccable," he wrote in 1991. "I’ve always thought that countries in Africa are vastly under polluted; their air quality is probably vastly inefficiently high compared to Los Angeles.... shouldn’t the World Bank be encouraging more migration of the dirty industries to the Least Developed Countries?" Summers was wrong on the crash, he's wrong on women, and wrong on the environment. He's unfit to lead the Fed. Drop his name.
