Whereas selective service registry is an antiquated practice and no longer needed in an era of high tech modern warfare with a standing careerist military, be it resolved that Congress should move swiftly to eliminate registry for the draft or make it solely voluntary. It has not been used for nearly half a century. Depending upon unprepared, unwilling, and, in some cases, physically unfit youth to rotate in and out of the military for short stints during a modern conflict is a dangerous approach to defense of the nation. Congress and the President of the United States are urged to remove the fear and threat of involuntary conscription, and instead consider expanding the military's options for voluntary reserves, if needed. Forcible conscription is no longer conscionable.
