I believe all high-schoolers should watch 12 years a slave. The story of a man whom was stripped of his freedoms has found its way through the test of time. In today's age we take our freedoms for granted and most do not understand the weight of racism or the true atrocities of slavery. This film is a realistic re-counting of an era in which although all men are created equal, not all men were treated as such. After watching this movie I gained a profound respect for African American history. Many Americans today remain ignorant of the blasphemy in which slavery was.
Showing this film to all high-schoolers will result, many years down the line, in a more enlightened country in line with the true American dream and credo. All men are created equal.
