The Electoral College Should Be Dissolved For The Following Reasons...

Created by J.G. on January 15, 2013

1. Sometimes the representatives in the electoral college vote opposite of what you think therefore making people feel like their vote doesn't matter. This would increase voter participation.
2. The winner-take-all method of winning electoral votes leads to lower voter turn out in states where one party is dominant because each individual vote will be overwhelmed by the majority. An example is California, which usually votes Democratic.
3. A presidency can be won without the majority of the popular vote. This has happened in the election of 2000 when Al Gore won the popular vote, but George Bush won the Electoral vote.
4. In case of a tie in electoral votes in the presidential race, the House of Representatives choose their presidential preference. This could lead to a partisan decision.
