As of 2014, Americans owe more in student loans than in any other form of debt, and Federal Student Loan interest is only tax deductible up to $2500 per year for families earning less than $155,000 AGI. All interest paid beyond that value is paid with after-tax dollars, often on a loan with an interest rate higher than any privately available loans such as those for homes and automobiles. (Currently 6.8% or higher for many)
To allow for easier repayment during this harsh economic period and to stimulate the economy by providing more spending money to those who furthered themselves by earning degrees in higher education, I feel it is in the best interest of America to lift the cap the student loan interest tax deduction for families earning less than $155,000 per year.
