This week, a BP Refinery in Whiting Indiana announced that they had a "Major" breakdown that will cause the price of gasoline at the pump to rise by more than $1.00 a gallon.
From past experience, it appears that there are opportunities for these companies to manipulate the price of gasoline by proclaiming that they have "major" breakdowns or "unscheduled" maintenance. This is industry speak for WE NEED MORE PROFITS FOR OUR SHAREHOLDERS.
Therefore, I ask that Congress...
Introduce Legislation that would MANDATE Energy companies to ADEQUATELY AND PROPERLY MAINTAIN AND REPAIR the equipment and infra-structure that supports their business.
Introduce Legislation that would penalize companies that FAIL to do so and file criminal charges against individuals for FAILING to do so.
