Drug-testing welfare recipients at random intervals would help eliminate system abuse. If a welfare recipient tests positive for illegal drug use, it suggests that money that they do have (that doesn't come from government aid) is being used for drugs, versus housing, food and other basic needs. We need to implement stricter criteria and regulation for those who apply for and wish to continue aid. The current system is a "bandaid" and doesn't motivate recipients to take action to the best of their ability. We can not afford to enable system abuse and if we do not make changes, the economy will never recover. If you receive welfare and you do not use drugs, this proposal should not be one that you fear. These changes will help repair the economy, provide aid and encourage accountability.
