The Air Force is wasting millions annually sending Airmen away 5-6 weeks at a time to NCO or SNCO academies. The smaller course (SNCOA) has 6 classes a yr with up to 2700 students; that's approx. $3.78 Million annually in travel costs (not accounting for lost manpower, cost to operate the course with staff, bldg costs, etc. The NCOA has 10 schools, and many more Airmen attending each year! The AF re-designed distant learning PME to save funds and limit how many go in resident. It's designed now for top-performers only, but regardless, everyone must attend both courses. People don't get much value from the courses or want to attend in resident. The courses focus on writing/speaking while most have college degrees. Can't we spend our budget/time wisely in an underfunded low morale Air Force?
