Currently, religious organizations (including churches, synagogues, etc...) enjoy many tax exemptions. Because of these tax exemptions, over $71 billion dollars in taxes are uncollected annually. This elevates the burden on taxpayers, and causes us to indirectly support all religious organizations. One of the reasons for these exemptions is to keep a separation between church and state, and to do so, it would be much more sensible to require these organizations to pay taxes as everyone else does, without any special exemptions.
