Since 1977, the Red Cross bars anyone who has had sex with a sexually active homosexual man from donating blood. The 2006 modification attempt that allows donations if it's a year after the sex is still discriminatory. The prohibition was imposed when knowledge about AIDS infections was practically nil.
We now know that there are four corporal fluids that can spread the disease and that infection via these fluids is preventable.
There's therefore no reason to suppose that homosexual men spread AIDS just by having sex. Blood banks are wasting potential donors, all due to a discriminatory prohibition that is founded on prejudice, not on the available evidence.
We ask the FDA and President Obama to eliminate the ban completely so that anyone healthy can donate blood to save lives.
