The official position of this petition is to change credit reporting policies used by the three major credit reporting bureaus in the United States to allow for year round, free online access to personal credit reports by consumers. The withholding of personal credit reports or requirement of payment to view these reports online is a barrier to entry for those that may not be able to afford their credit reports through paid services, and denies these people access to personal information that may be used for, or against them in financing ventures. Furthermore, the limited access to these reports is discriminatory based on income and access to reports. This proposal means to hereby allow for free, year round online access between the consumer and the credit reporting agency directly.
