Cell phone providers have locked phones that disallow the phone to be used by any other cell phone carrier. This prevents customers from transferring their phone from 1 provider to another while under contract. it protects the cell phone provider from someone signing up for their service getting a phone at a discounted price then leaving for another carrier. The problem is when the contract has been completed. Provider such as Verizon refuse to give you the unlock code to allow you to switch to another carrier with you phone. They will only allow you to reconnect to their network. This is wrong because you have completed your contractual agreement and they should release the phone by giving you the unlock code.
