The recent investigation of 55 colleges and universities by the Department of Education for the mishandling of sexual assault cases shows that educational facilities are ill-equipped to deal with rape and assault cases (See http://www.ed.gov). School officials lack even basic training in proper adjudication. The hearings are not transparent and lack basic requirements of due process. And, the panels act as prosecutor, judge and jury (See "Reporting Rape, and Wishing She Hadn’t," New York Times). Hobart and William Smith, a school, under investigation, even admitted they are not the entity to handle cases: "We welcome the conversation about whether higher education should even have a role in adjudicating cases like this one." Stop these panels and restore due process.
