The wait time for EB2 and EB3 employment-based immigration petitions for permanent residency is as long as 5-10 years, for individual charged to countries such as India and China. This is due to the per-country quota system, where only a certain number of immigration visas (green cards) are approved in every month/quarter for the countries mentioned above.
This creates a case of unfairness for the petitioned individuals and families and they go through the pain of waiting to get their immigrant visas approved, for years over.
All of this happens because of no fault or wrong doing of the petitioners themselves. They are charged to a particular country based on birth.
The per-country cap/quota needs to go, and petitioners from all countries need to be treated at par for processing.
