The current annual cap of 23,400 for the (F1) First Preference category for an unmarried child of a US citizen over the age of 21 has resulted in a current wait of over 7 years according to the current Visa Bulletin. It is vital that the annual cap be eliminated immediately.
Currently, an unmarried child of a US citizen is not considered 'an immediate' relative of a US citizen; only an unmarried child of a US citizen under the age of 21 is deemed a 'direct relative'.
We ask the President to recognize any unmarried child of a US citizen regardless of their age, as an immediate relative and forthwith eliminate the current annual cap which keeps families apart.
