Daylight Savings Time was instituted during World War I to provide more daylight hours for workers supporting the war effort. It was stopped after the war, then started again during World War II and has since remained. There are multiple studies that show an increase in health issues and car accidents after the time change. Further there is a large technology cost to keep devices running at the correct time, plus a enormous cost each time congress modifies the parameters of DST.
