No Child Left Behind has created a culture in education of high-stress and hi-stakes standardized testing. The students in America are not learning, they are learning how to test well. The federal dollars held out as enticements via programs such as "Race to the Top" are working to create a culture in schools where education does not matter, only test scores matter. It has also created a wave of cheating scandals in different states. Students are burned out, taking literally HUNDREDS of standardized assessments from K-12. Teachers are seeing their evaluations tied to test scores, sometimes the scores of kids they don't even teach. We should find a fair and valid way to measure a teacher's effectiveness, instead of having it based on one test that the students don't even care about.
