Our current system of electing the President is outdated. When the Electoral College was put into place, times were different. Communication was limited by technology. It was difficult to count the popular vote, so the Electoral College allowed for the government to work in a more timely manner. Now, however, we have incredible innovations in technology and communication. Our votes are counted over the course of a few hours rather than days. The problem is that the Electoral College counts the votes of some, but not all, of those who voted. If you vote for a candidate who doesn't win in your state, your vote is worthless. An American vote should not be worthless. I petition that the President should instead be elected by means of a popular vote, so that every American's voice is heard.
