The current system of electing the U.S. president through the Electoral College is an overly complicated and undemocratic mess. It gives far too much power to voters in small and “battleground” states, while effectively disenfranchising voters in larger and less evenly divided states. It also faces the grave risk that a small amount of miscounted votes in one state could change the national result. It should be replaced with a simple, direct popular vote for president which gives everyone one equal vote.
