The electoral college became obsolete with jet travel, with television, with cable, and with the internet. It was written in 1787,when mail was delivered every week or two,and people had to go to a candidate's speech in their area to hear one. Most Americans could not read and had little access to news. Today we can see every single speech a candidate makes from coast to coast in real time. We have the technology for ALL Americans to vote in a single day and have their vote counted individually.
The abolishment of the Electoral College will encourage voter turnout, empower 3rd party and independent candidates, and stop the focus on "swing states". The Electoral College only reinforces a two-party system, making it virtually impossible for 3rd party or independent candidates to run and win.
