This petition is to ask for the complete elimination of the Third Class Medical Certificate by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a requirement for pilots exercising only Private Pilot privileges. Currently pilots exercising Sport Pilot privileges have the ability to use a valid drivers license in lieu of a medical certificate, we ask that this be extended to all Private Pilot operations irrespective of aircraft category and class. Experience with the Sport Pilot sceme should show that safety of the general public would not be negatively affected. Furthermore, it is likely that the elimination of the need to maintain this program would free up budgetary resources that would be better used elsewhere.
