In their current situation, many graduates with significant college debt will never contribute significantly to the economy because they do not, and will not, have the earning power to do so. Loan restructuring is not loan elimination, which is what is needed to be realistically meaningful.
In order to make the current generation more economically viable in the present and near term future, and to remove for future generations any fear of unreasonable college debt coupled with reduced earnings potential, this petition requests that the President, by executive order, eliminate federal college debt for citizens who have graduated college more than three years ago so that they may be able to become once again active participants in the economy and future of the United States.
