This petition seeks to remove federal funding for Presidential vacation expenses, except for those that would normally occur if the President were not traveling (Secret Service salaries, communication fees, for example). Of course the President needs a break from work to rest and rejuvenate, but Camp David was set aside for that purpose. Costs incurred beyond normal expenses, including costs to local governments affected by Presidential travel, would be paid for by the President from his or her own personal funds, may not be paid for by a private or corporate source, and would not be included in any departmental budgets of any kind.
Citizens of the United States do not receive federal funding to travel on vacation. In that sense, the President deserves no special treatment.
