The Government Pension Offset and Windfall Elimination Provision instituted in the Reagan administration has deprived those on civil service pensions from receiving Social Security benefits that they have paid into prior to Government service and after retirement. Many receive pensions that are not as generous as other companies such as GM, UPS, and GE. They can also collect full SS benefits. Many government retirees need to work in the private sector to survive and pay into social security knowing they will never collect any benefits. The laws need to be eliminated or reformed so that SS benefits are paid based on contributions made by workers to SS and not to disqualify citizens because of prior government service unless you also disqualify them from paying into SS after retirement.
