In September 2008, the U.S. government took control of American International Group (AIG), and guarantee to loan it up to $85 billion. In the summer of 2008, the U.S. government committed up to $200 billion to save Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from collapse. In 2008 The Federal government took on roughly 912 million GM shares in exchange for bailout cash in 2008 and 2009. The federal government will post a $10.5 billion loss on its $49.5 billion taxpayer-backed bailout of GM.
If a Corporation which by definition is legally a 'person' can receive a government bailout, then surely the American people also deserve the same opportunity to have student load interest amounts written off.
