Eliminate pennies and nickels from US Currency

Created by S.W. on August 17, 2013

Pennies and nickels cost more to produce than they are worth. They do not Pennies cost $.0017 to produce, costing taxpayers 70 million per year just to keep a useless currency in circulation. The nickel requires more than $.09 to produce. These units of currency no longer facilitate the exchange of goods; they cost taxpayers money; and studies have shown they actually cost businesses in productivity. I propose we eliminate pennies, nickels, and quarters and create a system in which 1/10 of a dollar is smallest unit. We keep the dime and dollar coin and create a 20 cent and 50 cent piece.
