Because of metal costs, pennies cost more to produce than they are worth. So much money is wasted each year on production of pennies. The US should government should follow other nations like Canada, Australia, and New Zealand in removing the penny as a form of currency. When paying with cash, cent values can be rounded to the nearest five- or ten-cent amount, and electronic balances of .01 USD can still exist without the physical penny.
