The 1 cent coin or the penny is an outdated form of currency that no longer facilitates the exchange of goods. The penny has become a burden on the United States as the cost to produce the penny has exceeded the value of 1 cent. (Cost as of Sept. 30th 2012: 2.00 cents per coin)
