Eliminate the penny (and nickel) from US mint circulation

Created by J.W. on January 26, 2014

We must eliminate the penny. It is useless, and worthless. The penny costs more to mint than it's worth and is accepted almost none of the time. It is not even accepted by vending machines, parking meters, or even people. If you went to the store and tried to buy $20 worth of food using 2,000 pennies, the store would not accept it. Many countries have gotten rid of their one cent units of money, prices did not go up, charitable contributions did not go down. When faced with a price like $2.78 they simply rounded up to $2.80. From getting rid of the penny you will loose maximum four cents per purchase. Whats worse than pennies is nickels. A nickel is worth five cents, it costs 9 cents to make and has all the same problem mentioned in the penny argument.
