Eliminate the penny and nickel.

Both the US penny and the US nickel cost between 150-300% of their face values to mint depending on the various independent or government studies conducted on fiscal currency reform such as the 2014 Biennial Report to Congress required by The Coin Modernization, Oversight, and Continuity Act of 2010 (Public Law 111-302). It continues to be clear that minting both the penny and nickel makes no fiscal sense in the modern age. Per a recent Washington Post article by Christopher Ingraham, the US could save over 100 million dollars per year by enacting this plan. Therefore, as taxpayers signing this petition, we instruct our elected officials to end waste of our money on these units of currency and join other Western, Allied nations that have made this smart choice.
