Petition congress to eliminate the penny. Stop producing it as soon as possible. Eliminate it from circulation within two years.
The penny cost more than 1 cent to produce and has more than 1 cent worth of raw materials in it. It has of no useful monetary value and is a nuisance. It has nothing more than sentimental value. There would be little or no net cost to consumers.
Currently there is only one supplier of the zinc used to produce the penny, Jarden zinc Products , which lobbies for its retention.
