2.2 million adolescents aged 12 to 17 reported a major DEPRESSIVE EPISODE in the past year and nearly 60% of them did NOT receive any TREATMENT.
According to the U.S. Surgeon General, in one year, approx 20% of children and adolescents in the U.S experience signs and symptoms of a mental health problem,5% experience "extreme functional impairment" (US dept of Health and Human Services)
The DROP OUT rate for students with severe emotional and behavioral needs is TWICE that of other students.
SCHOOLS and MENTAL HEALTH agencies HAVE NOT reached the needs of the 5% with extreme impairment. Most are so impaired they DO NOT ATTEND SCHOOL or ACCESS Mental Health services.
A Mental Health/Family Support Early Identification and Response center IN the schools will ELIMINATE DROP OUTS!
It works!
