Eliminate Sexual Orientation-Based Discrimination During the Selection of Federal Juries

Created by B.L. on April 29, 2014

It is currently perfectly legal for both prosecutors and defense attorneys to dismiss potential jurors from serving on a jury based on their sexual orientation alone. Unlike race and gender which are protected from discriminatory dismissals, LGBT jurors can be denied their democratic rights simply because of their sexual orientation. The wholesale dismissal of gay jurors also violates the rights of LGBT defendants to be judged by a jury of their peers and is unconstitutional.

President Obama, please come out in favor a law prohibiting discrimination against LGBT jurors during the jury selection process. Please encourage Democratic senators and congresspeople to sponsor such a bill, and please sign that bill when it come to your desk.
