The Montgomery GI Bill has a 10 Year limit once discharged. The current GI Bill has 15. These limits are not openly disclosed to veterans. Further, service members pay into the Montgomery for the benefit. Yet there is no way to get the money back once paid in. In some cases such as mine, the VA failed to enter me into the system at all. Denied my claims until I was almost at the 10 year mark. Then finally approved it. But refused to pay because the appeal took to long. Having a time limit, when veterans leaving the service are primarily trying to find work and a place to live for thier family is a disservice. If the veteran had to pay for the benefit, it should be available for them whenever they are able to use it.
