Eliminate the United States Dependency On Foreign Oil

It's time to stop purchasing our oil from foreign countries. We have more than enough oil, outside of our reserves to fuel this country for more than 100 years, giving us time to perfect alternate energy sources. In the short-run, an announcement to this effect, by the U.S., will this will likely spawn a fear among OPEC countries, causing them to lower their oil prices immediately, before a policy is implemented. If the price of gas were to drop just $1.00 per gallon, the average driver would likely have $600 or more, annually, in which to spend domestically. U.S. citizens would have more discretionary income to spend on retail, travel and housing. This would support job growth and create more tax money going to local, state and federal governments, thereby reducing deficits.
