Currently our National Parks use plastic bags in their gift shops. Plastic bags are made from crude oil, which is a non-renewable source; just the manufacturing of plastic causes pollution to enter our environment. Therefore, it is difficult to make plastic, and nearly impossible to get rid of once made; it takes approximately 400 years at least for a bag to biodegrade. There is currently a plastic floating island in the Pacific which is two times the size of the United States.
Our National Parks are amazingly beautiful places and should be at the forefront of issues like this which help keep the environment beautiful. Please demand that our National Parks encourage going without a bag, or at the very least use paper bags, not plastic.
