Eliminate the wasteful, ineffective, and patronizing iPledge program when prescribing Isotretinoin (Accutane)

The FDA instituted a very expensive program to make patients "pledge" not to get pregnant while taking the drug Isotretinoin, commonly known as Accutane. While this drug can cause birth defects if administered during a pregnancy or if women become pregnant while using the drug, the number of occurrences (already very low) has not changed significantly since the institution of this program in 2006. At an estimated cost of 100 Million taxpayer dollars, this program was and is a colossal waste of time and money. Requirements include registration and pre-approval before filling a prescription, regular pregnancy tests along with use of multiple forms of contraception. The efficacy of this program as compared to more standard warning labels (also currently required) has been negligible.
