After being detained for one month Andrew attempted to kill himself because he was so afraid that the guards in the prison were going to rape and torture him.
Since he was detained there has been an outcry from Andrew’s family, U.S. lawmakers, and the veteran community for him to be released so that he can return home and continue treatment for his PTSD, which is not available in Mexico.
