Emphasize economic recovery and job growth this year over deficit reduction.

Created by S.B. on January 03, 2013

Cutting the Federal deficit is a serious long-term problem, but it's not the top priority for this year. Any business owner knows there are times to pay down debt, and times to take on debt to invest in growth, and that the best time to take on debt is when interest rates are low, as they are now.

Efforts to dramatically shrink the budget deficit this year will cost jobs, which (between increased entitlements and decreased tax revenues) will increase the budget deficit in future years. By contrast, efforts to create jobs this year will cost money this year, but decrease the budget deficit in future years as more Americans move from the dole to the tax rolls.

Talk up jobs as the real, sustainable solution to the deficit.
