As the 200th anniversary of the "Star Spangled Banner" approaches we believe it would be beneficial to emphasize proper respect for it.
In particular, Major League Baseball (MLB) has developed a culture where "God Bless America" is now treated during games as a de facto equal in terms of protocol and symbolism. Not only is this disrespectful to our National Anthem but treatment of a Christian hymn in this manner, in a public forum, is insensitive to other cultures.
We would like for an agency with responsibility for protocol to review this situation with MLB and other such organizations to end this practice and restore proper respect. We further request that Congress pass a resolution to this effect in time for the upcoming celebration.
