Employ returning veterans as security guards in schools, paid for with annual gun tax or annual maintenance fees.

Created by D.H. on January 01, 2013

There are two urgent needs that could be addressed with this solution. First, we need to protect our schools from random acts of violence. Second, returning veterans need secure jobs. Why not employ returning veterans to serve and protect our schools? Veterans will stay on military payroll, have routine mental health screenings, and are already trained. Administrative systems are already in place to provide health care, training and benefits. This would be a systematic, if temporary, solution while the "gun debate" continues. The program would be conditional on being paid for through gun ownership taxes and registration fees. If registration becomes an annual process, this would remind the gun owner of the burden of responsibility of owning firearms, thereby protecting that liberty.
