Empower the Department of Justice to Make Reporting of Deaths at the Hands of Police a Mandatory Reporting Requirement

Debate continues within the United States regarding the use of force and excessive deadly force by law enforcement officers in various local jurisdictions, and controversy continues to exist regarding racial disparities where use of force and excessive use of deadly force is deployed within these said communities, and we are unable to address a problem adequately without empirical data and there is no mandatory requirement to report these incidents so they may be consolidated in order to better manage the situation for as the expression “if it can’t be measured, it can’t be managed” suggests;
Therefore be it resolved:
That the United States Department of Justice require every local and state police department to report all deaths at the hands of police and capture and study critical data.
